Overview

Job Atlas ("we," "our," or "the extension") is a local-first Chrome extension that helps you capture job postings and track your application pipeline. Your job data stays on your device. We do not operate servers or user accounts for Job Atlas, and the extension does not use analytics or tracking.

This Privacy Policy describes how Job Atlas handles information when you install and use the extension and when you visit this website at thehelpfultipper.com/job-atlas.

Prominent disclosure Job Atlas reads the current job posting page only when you take action — by clicking the extension icon, opening the capture popup, or choosing "Save to Job Atlas" from the right-click menu. Scraping does not run automatically in the background.

Information we collect (extension)

Job Atlas collects and stores information only when you choose to save a job or adjust your preferences. This data is stored locally in chrome.storage.local on your computer:

  • Job records: title, company, URL, location, status, saved/applied/interviewing/offer/rejected dates, tags, notes, pin and archive flags, and status change history
  • Preferences: minimum salary threshold for local insight checks and UI preferences such as storage banner dismiss state

When you open the capture popup on a job posting page, the extension temporarily reads visible page content (such as job title, company, location, and description text) from the active tab to pre-fill the form and run optional local insight checks. This scraped content is processed in memory only and is not saved unless you explicitly enter it into notes or save the job record.

Information we do not collect (extension)

  • We do not collect browsing history or track pages you visit
  • We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies in the extension
  • We do not require or store user accounts, passwords, or authentication credentials
  • We do not collect health, financial, or payment information
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties

How we use information (extension)

All data collected by Job Atlas is used solely to provide the extension's core functionality:

  • Displaying and organizing your job pipeline in the popup, dashboard, and side panel
  • Pre-filling job details when you initiate capture on a posting page
  • Running optional local checks (such as salary comparison against your minimum preference)
  • Exporting your data to JSON or CSV files when you request a backup

We comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: data accessed through the extension is used only to provide and improve user-facing features within Job Atlas, and is not transferred to third parties except as necessary to provide the extension's functionality (which, for Job Atlas, means no transfer at all).

Data storage and security (extension)

All job data and preferences are stored locally in your browser via Chrome's extension storage API. Data is not transmitted to our servers or any external service. Because storage is local:

  • Your data is available only in the browser profile where Job Atlas is installed
  • Uninstalling Job Atlas permanently deletes all stored job data unless you export a backup first
  • Clearing extension data through Chrome settings will also delete your jobs

We recommend exporting regular backups using the dashboard's JSON or CSV export features.

Website analytics

This marketing website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic — for example, which pages are visited and how visitors arrive at the site. Google may set cookies and collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location, browser type, device type, and referral source.

Analytics applies to this website only. The Job Atlas Chrome extension does not load Google Analytics or send usage data to us or to Google.

You can learn how Google uses data at Google's partner sites policy. You may opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or through cookie and ad settings in your browser.

Third-party services

The Job Atlas extension does not integrate with third-party analytics, advertising, cloud storage, or data processing services. The extension reads publicly visible content on job posting websites you visit, but does not send that content to those sites or to us.

This website uses Google Analytics (Google LLC) as described above. No other third-party services are used on this site.
