What do you do when you realize your Google search results are in two languages?
Because that’s exactly what happened and, not gonna lie, I panicked (just a bit).
We’re very big on Googling here at THT (who isn’t these days?) but neither I nor my dear sister ever encountered two languages in Google search results 😳
If your Google search is showing results in two languages, then this post is for you.
Check your Google Chrome location isn’t wrong
First, verify that your Google Chrome location in the browser settings is correct.
Google Chrome allows you to specify a preferred language under the Languages tab in the browser settings side panel.
Tip: Make sure it’s set to your preferred language!
In our case, the language selection in the browser settings is English. This is expected considering the search results are primarily shown in English.
The problem is the odd bits and pieces in the Google search results that are appearing in a different language.

Searching for the region selection in Google Chrome
Most solutions on how to fix Google Chrome location point to changing Google search region.
The only problem is the Google region selection was removed at one point in time because we sure as heck couldn’t find it anywhere 😒
All that searching with our funky search engine was just a waste of time. You don’t need to select a region for something like this.
Instead, follow the steps below to change your Google search location correctly.
How to get Google search back to English

Even though we’re changing our Google search results language to English you’re free to choose your preffered language from the available selection.
The actual solution for changing Google search results language is not found in the browser settings but in Google’s search settings.
1) Head to Google search settings
On the top right-hand corner of the Google search results page, you’ll find the gear icon that will bring up your Google search settings.
Click on the gear and the Quick Settings side panel will appear.
2) Select the languages option on the Quick Settings panel
Now, this might be a tad tricky since the panel items are in another language, but we noticed parenthesis identify the selection as “Languages”.
We went so far as to test it out for you in different languages 👏
Thankfully Google developers are very considerate people because they never failed to include the preferred language translation right beside the foreign local language selection.
The “translation” should be in the language you set as preferred in browser settings. You know, the one most of the search results are shown in.
3) Choose the language in Search Settings
The languages option on the Quick Settings panel will redirect to the Languages section of the Search Settings.
Fair warning it’s going to be in a foreign language, but don’t let that bother you.
All you need to do is select your language and hit save.
Tip: Save is going to be the first button with the blue background 😉
Refresh any open windows to see the changed settings take place.
After this, you shouldn’t be dealing with two languages in your Google search results anymore!
